Fisheries biologists routinely use tags to collect valuable data on growth rates, population sizes, and migratory habits of many fish species. Today, pond owners are realizing that tagging largemouth bass is one more pond management tool they can use to build and maintain top-notch fisheries. Not only is tracking bass with tagging and record keeping a good way to know what is happening in the pond, it can also be a lot of fun!

Catching a tagged fish allows you to match information you have on that particular fish. For example, you may learn that a tagged bass has been caught and released several times, that it has grown x-amount over the years or that it has been caught in the same location.

When it comes to knowing what swims in your pond and controlling its balance, nothing beats an annual fishery evaluation.
